From Cape Town
to Gqeberha.

Cape Malay koeksisters have their roots in Cape Town’s Cape Malay community, where recipes and traditions have been passed down through generations. Soft, warmly spiced, soaked in syrup and finished with coconut, they are made for sharing with family and friends.

My own connection to them began in Port Elizabeth, now known as Gqeberha, along South Africa’s Eastern Cape coast. Although Cape Malay koeksisters originated in Cape Town, Port Elizabeth is wonderfully diverse, with cultures, flavours and traditions blending together.

This is where I learned to make them from my Mom. They became part of our family story and a familiar taste of home. Today, I make every batch by hand in Waterford, using the techniques and care I grew up with.

From South Africa to Ireland, made from memory, family and love.
